Hi Dev, hope you’re well. Thanks again for the GT86 CAN/LIN XML you sent me a few months ago.

I’m running RealDash on an Eonon UX6K Pro Max Android head unit in my 2013 UK-spec manual Toyota GT86 (Gen 1), which is turbocharged and running an EcuTek map.

I’m using a GJP IO Box with oil pressure and fuel pressure sensors connected to it. The IO Box puts those additional sensor signals onto the vehicle CAN bus and makes them available through the factory OBD2 connector. I believe oil temperature is already available on the factory GT86 CAN data.

I’ve noticed that oil temperature, oil pressure and fuel pressure don’t appear to be included in the OBD2 XML available in RealDash. With that OBD XML, all my other gauges work apart from those three.

I then tried the CAN/LIN XML you sent me with my OBDLink MX+ via Bluetooth. Unfortunately, the only gauges that work correctly are oil temperature and coolant temperature.

I initially thought Bluetooth might be the limitation, so I bought an OBDLink EX USB cable and tried that through CAN/LIN, but the results are exactly the same. This makes me think the limitation may be with the XML rather than the connection.

The gauges I’m trying to display are RPM, boost pressure, oil pressure, oil temperature, coolant temperature, intake air temperature, fuel pressure and battery voltage.

I’m not good with computers or coding, and I have no idea how to extract or modify the OBD XML from RealDash. Would it be possible for you to either provide/modify an OBD XML to include the missing oil temp, oil pressure and fuel pressure, or modify the CAN/LIN XML to correctly read the factory CAN data plus the GJP IO Box pressure signals?

I also tried a Waveshare CAN USB adapter directly from the OBD port. I quadruple-checked the wiring, but connecting it caused the factory dash warning lights to come on and generated a lost communication with instrument cluster fault, so I stopped using it. I’m still using the factory instrument cluster alongside the RealDash screen.

I completely understand if some of this isn’t possible with the GT86, but if you could let me know what you think is possible or what the best approach would be, I’d really appreciate your advice.

I appreciate this is probably a long and difficult process and I am more than happy to pay for your time and expertise.

Thanks again for your help Dev

Regards
John

It is definitely possible, but its quite a big ask to analyse your vehicle CAN bus remotely over the forum. I think your best bet is trying to find someone local who is capable of analysing the CAN bus and making modifications to the description XML. I personally just do not have the time it would take to analyse your vehicle.

As for connecting Waveshare (or any other ‘direct’ CAN adapter), you need to:

- Make sure that you are not using terminating resistor on your adapter.
- Make your first attempts with adapter in Silent Mode. Adapter can then inspect the CAN bus but not interact with it.

Thanks very much for the reply, I really appreciate it. I completely understand that analysing the GT86 CAN bus remotely would be a huge amount of work.

I’m working through it with ChatGPT now using documented Gen 1 GT86/BRZ CAN data and making/testing modified XML files on the car. I’ve also got a GJP IO Box coming which will eventually add oil and fuel pressure to CAN.

Hopefully we can work out the vehicle-specific CAN side ourselves. If we get stuck, the only thing I may need to ask you about is the RealDash-specific XML syntax once we already know the CAN ID, bits, scaling etc., rather than asking you to analyse the vehicle.

Thanks again for your help 👍

If you have CAN specs for that device, I can help you make a XML values for that.

Hi Dev,

Thank you very much for your offer to help, I really appreciate it.

I’m still waiting for the GJP IO box to arrive, but it should be delivered shortly. I’ll be back home on the 19th, so I’ll check the documentation for the CAN specifications then and pass them on to you.

Thanks again for your time and support. It’s very much appreciated!

Kind regards,
John

Hi Dev,

Just one more quick question.

I’ve decided to stick with the OBDLink MX+ Bluetooth connection rather than the hard-wired setup.

As a backup in case the CAN approach doesn’t work out, I’d like to send the existing RealDash OBD2 XML to ChatGPT to see if we can get oil temperature working.

Could you please tell me where I can find or export the OBD2 XML file, or if you have time, would you be able to email a copy to [jprovan@hotmail.co.uk](mailto:jprovan@hotmail.co.uk)?

Many thanks again for your help!

Sorry Dev,

Just to clarify, I don’t have a PC or laptop, and I genuinely have absolutely no knowledge of XML files, coding or programming whatsoever. I’m completely out of my depth with this side of things! 😂

That’s why I’m hoping to get the actual GT86 OBD2 XML file so I can pass it to ChatGPT to modify for me.

Thanks again for your patience and help. It’s very much appreciated!
