Hi. I have android headunit in VW Polo. Unit have CAN decoder and have comunication with car, i can see rpm, and all other parameters. Is there a way to conect app to this built in interface?
Unfortunately these vehicle specific Android headunits do not share any API with third party apps so they are unable to access that data.
It is afternarket multimedia from aliexpress. It has some app that reads parameters from CAN. Is it posible to do “reverse engineering” of that specific app and find out what protocol it uses to read data?
It is certainly possible to reverse engineer the CAN API on those devices but unfortunately we do not have resources to undertake such a project.
I think best way to try move forward is to directly contact the manufacturer of the device and ask for 3rd party access to CAN. If enough people ask for it, they may open up.
