I also have a problem with connecting via CAN/LIN with the OBDlink MX+ adapter. (Bluetooth adapter is paired with the Android radio) When this option is selected, the connection does not take place. It does not receive any data. If I select the connection via the OBD2 option, everything works.
This sounds like the protocol and/or CAN speed settings are incorrect for the OBDLink CAN connection.
âTimeoutâ indicates that connection has been made but there is no CAN frames coming in from CAN bus.
Checklist:
- Verify CAN H and CAN L wires are correctly connected to the adapter.
- Check CAN line resistance
- Your vehicle may prevent direct CAN connection on its gateway module unless a special PID/Header is issued (you did not specify vehicle/ECU).
So I measured the CAN-L and CAN-H wires and there was 66 ohms. Thatâs probably fine. But I found out that OBDLink MX+ wonât connect via Bluetooth to the Dynawin car radio. Through the manufacturerâs technical support I learned that the radio communicates via Bluetooth only with hands-free headphones. Not with any other device. So I bought OBDLink SX for USB. Unfortunately, this adapter doesnât support CAN communication. So thatâs bad luck. I donât know if I have any other options. My Car is Golf 7 2015
If you have access to your CAN wires, you can use any of the supported CAN adapters:

We use a lot of Seeedstudio and Waveshare style adapters and they have been fast and reliable.
Thanks for the guidance, Iâll definitely try something.
