Does Waveshare USB-CAN-A work with RealDash?

Hi RealDash community,

I’m looking into using the Waveshare USB-CAN-A adapter https://www.waveshare.com/wiki/USB-CAN-A and was wondering if anyone has tested it with RealDash.

Currently, it’s not listed among the officially supported CAN adapters RealDash | Manuals | Supported CAN/LIN Adapters, but since it supports SocketCAN on Linux, I’m curious if it might work with existing RealDash CAN implementations.

Has anyone tried using this adapter with RealDash? If so, what were the results? Any configuration tips?

I am using Raspberry 5 with the Linux install of RealDash.

Looking forward to any insights!

Thanks in advance.

I ordered couple of these adapters to take a closer look.

SocketCAN is adapter agnostic connection type, so if you can make SocketCAN work with this adapter, RealDash can also read/write the CAN frames.

As for direct connection, their protocol seems very much the same as Seeedstudio CAN adapter. Can’t really confirm before we receive these adapters.

Sounds great! Hopefully, the adapters work smoothly. I couldn’t resist and ordered one as well! Looking forward to hearing your results!

can you describe the installation? I went to realdash, garage, connection, Adapter (CAN/LIN), Realdash CAN, and then USB… and it’s not showing up in the list. I installed the drivers using Windows 10 and nothing.
