Getting started with Real Dash needs a boost

Hello everyone

First of all, please excuse my laborious English. It’s from my school days and it was a long time ago…
I’m new to Real Dash and I think the software is great!
Let me explain my project.
I own a Fiat Grande Punto that competes in R3D rally classes.
It’s a very unusual vehicle and its electronics are quite basic.
I would like to use Real Dash to monitor data like coolant temperature and fuel level, for example. I connected an OBDLink MS+ to a phone with the Real Dash app, but there’s very little information (date, time, and outside temperature, I think).
I connected the MS+ via a CAN adapter, and you’ll see the CAN monitor logs attached.
What did I do wrong to not have any information?
Do you have any ideas?
I should point out that I’m not an expert, that I’m trying to find out more, but I don’t understand everything, but I’m hanging on…
The ultimate goal would be to create a dashboard where the screen turns on and off with the vehicle, or I still have hope…
Thank you for reading and sorry again for my English…

Best regards

Didier

Using OBDLink adapter as a CAN adapter requires CAN description file for your vehicle. We do not have one for Fiat unfortunately.

Try the OBD2 connection type. That should give you basic sensor info.

Hello,

Thank you for your reply.
I’ve already tried OBD2 and it doesn’t communicate.
How can I get the CAN data?

Sincerely,

Didier

Two options:

  1. Try to find CAN descriptions from Internet. A DBC file can be converted to RealDash XML file relatively easily.
  2. Reverse engineer the CAN messages manually by investigating the values in CAN Monitor. This can take a long time and requires some deep understanding of bits/bytes and typical conversions.

Hello

The fact that the CAN lines are green doesn’t mean there’s communication?
Isn’t there software that can find this CAN data and create an XML file?

Let me know if you find one. Analysing CAN bus data is not a simple task.

If there’s no software to interpret the data, how can we find it?
The Multiecuscan software understands the information. Do you think there’s a way to retrieve the information Multiecuscan understands and transcribe it into RealDash, for example?
Sincerely,

What kind of files it uses? If they are DBC, then yes.

Hello,
How do I find out what file type MultiECUscan is using?
By searching the software?

Unfortunately I do not know, I don’t have that software.
