GPS module compatibility and capabilities in realdash

Hello,

For our application (tractorpulling), we are looking to add a high refresh rate and precise GPS module with a usb connection. We use a PC as a realdash device. The bluetooth connection is already in use by another device, we don’t want to stress the connection too much.

I’ve found the following module:
[Columbus P-9 Race Technische Daten] (Columbus P-9 Race Technische Daten)
Unfortunatly the website is in german, but as it is technical data I think it will be usable.

Questions:

  1. Will this module work with Realdash?
  2. Is it possible to track speed in the log file? I assume it is, but better to ask.
  3. Is it possible to track distance travelled in the log file? as a rising number that can be graphed like the other in the datalog file.
  4. Is there a way to automate a trigger for starting a datalog? for example when RPM reaches a certain value.

We want to use the GPS data to track the travelled distance and the speed during a tractorpulling run and be able to plot this against the other data we gather with realdash.

I hope these questions are not too redundant, but i couldn’t find anything specific for this module and or application.

Greetings,

Mike

  1. Yes, Columbus P9 Race works with RealDash with ‘External GPS Module’ connection type. USB baud rate is 115200.
  2. Yes, you can select any values you want into your data log.
  3. Yes, but requires tweaking. Make a button that resets Trip A, and log the Trip A tripmeter.
  4. Yes, use Triggers and Actions to do that.
