Has anyone found a solution to importing files on an Android head unit. I tried a few android file explorers but when you select the file Realdash just hangs sayng ‘loading’ and the file isn’t imported. Is there any other way of getting a file into the Realdash app
What exactly are you trying to import? A custom dash? I’ve had no problems supporting my custom dashes to my android radio.
What I usually do is copy them onto the unit into the download folder. From there, open up real dash and import the file.
That’s exactly what I’m trying to do with my custom dash file but when I select the file it doesn’t import - just hangs. There is a topic similar to this a few years ago so I thought maybe someone now had a work around.
I can import files downloaded from Realdash no problem but not from Android local storage.
Edit → File → Load → Import
If this is a custom dash that you worked on and shares a name with one already loaded you have to remove the file first.
No, there is nothing loaded except the RD default dash.
I created the custom dash and it was running on an Android phone I just need to move it to my head unit
Can I upload my custom dash to the Realdash site and then download it to my Android head unit ?
Check if the name is correct, it must have “.rd” at the end to load it into realdash.
It’s just named dash.rd
You can I believe if you have the subscription version.
Update the application, there may be an error.
Problem solved.
After trying many different Android File Explorers I found one that worked and allowed Realdash to import the file. If anyone else has this issue CX File Explorer works. !
It doesn’t sound right. You’re importing the file from within RealDash. Ather app, aka the File Explorer, shouldn’t affect it. Also I believe you could still import thru RealDash with no file explorer added.
No, Realdash gives an error message if there is no file explorer to access the file. There was a thread on this in 2022. I believe that after Android 10 Google stopped apps like Realdash accessing the Android file system directly
If you have multiple file explorers installed when you select import RD asks you to choose which file explorer to use
Still very surprised by that. When I open them up they all look the same across my devices.
That being said, I’ve used Google File Explorer, OEM Samsung File Explorer, OEM lineage File Explorer, And 2 head units from china File Explorers
Never an issue with those.
I think it might be better for you to make a list of every one of them that doesn’t work and that way the community can try them out or give their results if it does work for them.
Some chinese head units have permissions blocked to allow other apps to access storage with the included file manager. Check permissions for everything involved.
