ME442 oil temperature

I’m struggling reading the oil temperature data on my real dash app, I’ve selected “oil temperature” and tried others with no success.

I have multiple other values working fine ie rpm, tps, boost, coolant temp ect and the oil pressure which is an additional input on the ecu is working fine but oil temperature I can’t seem to pin point the whereabouts of the data on the app (Working fine on ecu/MEITE).

Can anyone shed any light please? 01-05 VVT ME442 GEN2 wired into one of the ANA terminals IIRC (will check).
Thanks!

Have you asked Motorsport Electronics directly? They are typically very helpful for configuration with RealDash.

I’d be interested to hear how you got on . I have the same setup and would like to add the oil sensor

Added this sensor and now having the exact same problem. Ticket opened with ME

Reply from ME …

"Good morning,

I am not sure exactly, you’d have to ask them exactly what data in their system corresponds to the Oil temp and pressure"

Any ideas ?

I did send them an email requesting protocol information to retrieve these values but I have not heard back from them. It could be lost on holiday seasons.

Thanks for following this up. I’ll nudge them on this email thread I have going with them .

Motorsport electronics have said this

“I haven’t seen a request for our protocol but it’s freely available on our website: https://motorsport-electronics.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/ME1_4.zip

What is in that file is a CAN connection DBC file. Are you connected via CAN adapter, or with direct USB connection?

My understanding was that its direct USB, and that uses ME proprietary data protocol, where individual values are identified by a number. These numbers are controlled by ME and we would need their help on retrieving the right ones.

Correct I’m using usb to android tablet. I have pasted your response back to them

ME have said this

“That makes sense, the Datalink ID for OilTemp is 28. Hopefully that should help.”

Thanks for the above information, I’ve been totally out of loop just picked up the emails now.

I will take a look at the weekend and see if I can get it configured

Cheers chaps

What does datalink id 28 mean though ?

At least I can see that we are not requesting datalink ID 28 from the ECU. I can add it, but you would need to test that for me. Send email to contact@realdash.net and I will send you a link to Android pre-release version.

Ok so with the new software It now shows a value but not what I’m expecting. Meite shows 26 c and Realdash shows 140c

Afternoon all,

I’ve tried the update this afternoon and had the same result, previously reading 0 now reading 140. Not inline with the Oil Temperature readings within MEITE

Please could you advise further

Thanks!

Please check if value is actually 140. Now your range has capped it to 140, so text gauge will not show any larger values.

I think we are going to need more help from ME to solve this. Maybe the value is sensor voltage instead of actual temperature?

I increased the cap and the actual value is hovering around 37000 . Any idea what that would be ? I’ve also asked ME

Looks like the value real dash is showing corresponds to oil temp raw in meite

Update from ME. They said it’s actually 29 ( not 28) . 28 is raw. 29 is actual temperature
