I’m relativly new in RealDash and I don’t know how to say it, but the Google Maps integration option isn’t really an integration. You have to manually open Maps and RD at the same time which is really time consuming and slows my device down (Samsung Tab with Android 8.1 and 2GB of RAM). And than I type in my destination an switch to real dash I get Google Maps in the picture-in-picture mode.
I could use the integrated Navigation System but in my personal opinion it’s not really good. The automatic completion function is very old and not very intuitive (maybe because of the support of all devices). F.e. in Google Maps you can first type in you destination with the street and place and later the house number but in real dash you don’t really have this function. In the Integrated option I wish me an overlay on every screen in my Dash (Multiview) with a direction symbol and an distance indicator with audio feedback.
Another option is an complete integration of Google Maps like in Android Auto. I know Android Auto is also from Google and they have a much bigger advantage but I think it’s possible (ideas in pictures).
That’s not hate for the devs and the text is a little bit harsh because I’m from Germany and I’m not good at english. So please don’t judge me. Your devs are really good especially in problem solving or new features.
Thank you for reading
greetings Arian
Let’s be honest. A device with 2 Gb of RAM is a very weak device compared to android 8. But as I understand it, you want to get tracking on maps with an overlay of information display. My advice is to find a device with 4gb of ram.
Integration of Google Maps, Waze, Here maps whatnot comes down to costs. We are offering map view for all our users, even for those who do not pay anything for the app. It is just not viable to integrate, simply put: it costs too much.
I much rather get ideas to improve our internal navigation system.
These are all doable as is, just depending on the dashboard design. Voice instructions are working.
So what I get from your message is that “automatic completion function is very old and not very intuitive”. I’m not exactly sure what you mean by that, could be the language barrier.
Also, with integrated navigation, RealDash supports voice commands. So you can just activate voice commands and say “Navigate to …”. That’s how I use it and find it pretty handy.
I mean I that it doesn’t let you type in house number like in Google Maps f.e. (I send a pic of it (“Hausnummer Hinzufügen” translates to “add House Number”))
And the interface looks a little bit old. You could do a new overworked version with an option where you decide if you use the new or old option (for old devices).
If the navigation system is acting up, I’d first check the GPS signal and make sure the app has location permission. A quick restart of the device can also clear up temporary connection issues. If it’s still happening, checking whether the maps or navigation data needs an update would be worth trying.
