OBD PID's.......why so few?

Hello, I am using a OBDLINLK MX+, on latest version 2.4.7 this is their best OBD model. On auto connect, it establishes Protocol 6, ISO 15765-4 CAN (11 bit ID) 500K baud.

Per the pictures below, it seems to return very few PIDS  I know a custom xml will be way better, but it does not exist for Porsche Macan :frowning:

Is there a better protocl for this MX+ to get more pids ?? Or is this just going to be all I get ? I would like a custom dashā€¦but with limited pidsā€¦not sure if it is going to be worth it, thanks.

Like 20 PIDS only ? any help appreciated.

If youā€™re using OBD2 I believe thatā€™s limited information. Ontop of that some PID are manufacturer/vehicle specific which youā€™d either have to know or decode to get. I believe canbus would be better for data input and youā€™d be able to try and decode the data input.

Is Automatic the best way to communicate? This protocol ? Worth trying another ?

I wish there was one way to get cam specific information for this Porsche Macan.

Automatic should give your the basic stuff you need for driving. But stuff like turn signals, door ajar, etc are usually special vehicle specific PID that you have to know or be able to find in the data through canbus.

Itā€™s frustratingā€¦.other basic programs get more pids through elm. That is why I am wondering if it is the automatic protocol that is the problem.

Canbus is the way to go. I ran into Lag issues over obd2 and Bluetooth.

Of course Canbus is the way to go. I would love to !!! Its just that pids, xml does not exist for my model ( Porsche Macan). further to that, I have Looked around for ANYBODY who may have done this for a Porsche modelā€¦and find nothing, nada. Not even for Torque. So extracting these may be a challenge ? Maybe some manuā€™s are harder to log/extract ? I would pay for someone to be able to provide thisā€¦I would love to use this awesome RD program for more that RPM and speed. Thanks

Yes, If automatic detection of the OBD2 protocol works, do not attempt to change it manually to anything else. When using OBD2, your vehicle supports one, and only one OBD2 protocol.

Thank you , what can you suggest to make this work better for this vehicle ? More pids ?

We do not have custom/vehicle specific PID database for Porsche Macan.

Hello @realdashdev , I understand that it may be impossible to have abvauilable for every model.
I would be willing to help here, get what is needed. Would you , or do you have a Developer that can assist me ?
thank you

I believe you would have to find a specilist to be able to read and ā€œdecodeā€ canbus data to find PIDs. OBD2 i believe was a standardize data being read from cars but manufacturers still used their own custom PID for stuff like turn signals, etc. What makes it worse, it can vary between models.

Yes, I believe you are correct, a specialist

have you tried googling ā€œCAN BUS ID PORSCHEā€ Im sure other Porsche models may share the same IDs as yours.

Thatā€™s not always the case. Some might work but not all.

Yes, some might not, but thatā€™s how I built my own CAN xml. I based it off of someone elseā€™s CAN xml for their Toyota FJ cruiser. And I have a Camry. After figuring out which work, you can create IDā€™s for the missing things you want by using RealDashā€™s CAN monitor and some trial and error.

I have looked aropund for anywhere to start and not found anything. It would need the experts at RD I think.

thats just 1 resultā€¦ seems like its hard to decode or read Porsche CANBUSā€¦ or maybe you need special software or hardware
