Suggestions on how to create/edit a dashboard

I’m trying to edit a dashboard, just to learn how it is done.

I select the brake indicator, but it is along the top of the dashboard, so I can’t see it because 1. it is behind the selection dialog, and 2. it is behind the top banner that comes down when you enter edit.

Is there a way to have the edit dialogues to not cover up the dashboard? how do you edit things you cannot see?

I’m sure there is some way to do this.

Found the keyboard shortcuts. ctrl-w helps

Also, there is a small handle on each side menu to individually show/hide them.
