I’m really sorry for the basic questions but what do I need to do to be able to connect to the CANbus of my Toyota GR Yaris and display that data in RealDash on the dash I have begun to create? I want to show things like engine rpm, oil temp, coolant temp, boost etc. will that be real challenge or is there files I can download?
You could try the Toyota FJ Cruiser canbus file, possibly some commonality from Toyota?
I’ve given that a go but doesn’t seem to connect. I’m a real amateur with canbus and not sure how I’d go about mapping it and creating a file for RealDash
I started with OBD2 determining what parameters were available on the car and then figuring out how many parameters were available on the CANBUS. I have a MeatPi for CANBUS and a Vlink for OBD2 connected to a Y splitter cable onto the car’s OBD2 port with both devices Bluetooth connected to an Android phone running RealDash. The overall process of analysing CANBUS frames using RealDash logging capability and determining the various parameters took about 6 months with some later finessing. In the end I still have 3 parameters on OBD2 which are not present on the CANBUS. Hope this gives some idea of possible effort needed.
