Connecting to EMU Black by USB from Windows PC

Trying to connect an EMU Black to Realdash running on Windows using the USB cable that is plugged in to the micro-USB port on the EMU black. The cable works (I can connect to the EMU Black V3 software on the pc) but in Realdash it is just going round and not connecting at the connecting stage when I choose ECUMaster>USB/Serial as the connection type.

Is there something I need to set in the ECUMaster V3 software or should realdash be picking this up?

Thank you in advance for any help and advice.

The RealDash needs broadcast frames from a CAN bus.

Unless there is something in the documentation that says otherwise, I don’t think USB is a supported protocol.

For example:

EMU Black[USB] → USB → RealDash does NOT work.

EMU Black[CAN] → USB to CAN adapter → RealDash does work.

You might be able to get the EMU USB to transmit CAN wirelessly but I would not do that personally for safety reasons. It looks like a good idea on paper but it’s not on my agenda.

Thank you for the reply.

When I choose the ECUmaster option in realdash, it gives some the choice of Bluetooth, Serial/USB or WiFi. Are all 3 options under the ECUMASTER menu assuming that the data is coming via a CAN analyzer, whether that is usb/serial, WiFi or BT?

The USB/SERIAL is a special type of USB device.

It is a transceiver. A converter, AKA “dongle”.

Not just anything plugged into the USB port.

Ok, so take it you mean the USB/serial option is for an EMU Black though a USB to CAN analyzer as I mentioned? Just trying to be 100% clear as I seem to find conflicting information online and trying to avoid any unnecessary incorrect purchases.
