Notes
2.4.3 has been (too) long coming but finally here. Release Highlights:
Android USB camera support
Android version now supports USB cameras. USB cameras are selected in ‘Settings->Application->USB Cameras’ and Video Gauge has USB Camera 1-4 sources available. This seems to work pretty well on at least 3 cameras at the same time, but depending on camera device this may vary. Please note that this is a first release of USB camera support and there may be still some issues that we have been unable to uncover at office environment.
Current limitations on Android USB camera support:
USB camera stream cannot be recorded.
No sound from USB cameras.
Indicator Light gauge
This is not actually a new gauge type, but a shortcut to create most common indicator lights, like turn signals, check engine light etc. When creating new gauge with this, a popup appears to select indicator image. After that, RealDash creates an normal Image Gauge and sets the parameters for indicator image and colors.
I sent an email a few weeks back, I have a wifi dashcam. It streams over wifi, like a 3 second lag. I can watch it perfectly fine on VLC media player. No audio I believe. It’s using RTSP. I can’t get it to work on RealDash though. Could you guys look into that? I got this camera specifically for the wifi compatibly in hopes to find a solution with RealDash.
Made a quick Android and Windows 2.4.3-2 update, as we saw from the logs that lot of users had crashes on USB Permission system. We will keep monitoring the issues. Windows version also has support for USB cameras.
I installed version 2.4.3-2, but the indicators do not turn on, the system shuts down, I use it on an android tablet.
I tried different indicators, either the indicators I purchased or the free ones, 1 of the 3 paid ones works, there was no problem in the previous version.
We found the problem. This is related to using multiple CPU cores while loading large dashboard files. We will disable the multicore loading and issue an 2.4.3-3 update.
Edit: Ok, 2.4.3-3 is on the way. For those that are interested of more details of the issue:
We needed to integrate libjpeg-turbo into our game engine in order to support USB cameras on Android (MJPEG frames). libjpeg-turbo uses heavy SIMD optimizations for the performance. Unfortunately on some ARM processor architectures, those SIMD optimizations caused a memory corruption. SIMD optimizations for JPEG loading are now disabled until we find the actual reason libjpeg-turbo is behaving this way.
I am trying to add USB camera to video gauge but can’t figure out how to select it. I have gone into settings/application and selected my USB camera for camera 1. But when I create video gauge I don’t see how to select it as source. Am I missing something?
